Jewish Community - The echoes of the Jewish world

We would like to invite you on a sentimental journey to some places of interest, like the wonderful town of Sopot, which was established in the XIX/XX century, built in the nouveau style. You can still come across plenty of old mansions which were owned by the rich Jewish families of doctors, bankers and salesmen. There is also a Jewish cemetery, still untouched and lovingly taken care of by the local council and Nissenbaum foundation. The cemetery can be found in upper Sopot near Malczewskiego Street.

In Gdansk Wrzeszcz just a few miles away there is an ex-synagogue which is now being used as a music school as well as a Jewish 'GMINA'. The chairman happily meets visitors by appointment.

The Great synagogue of Gdansk was destroyed by the Germans, long before World war II. The artwork collected for the synagogue by the well-known salesman from Gdansk Lesser Gieldzinski was fortunately not damaged and The Germans allowed the 'GMINA' to purchase the artwork and present they are the pride and joy of the Jewish museum in New York
